The Royal Alexandra stood for only 65 years. Much of its furnishing went to other CP hotels, or were sold off at public auctions. Exterior ornamentations, such as the lion's heads that lorded over the second floor windows, were also salvaged.

Despite not following the chateau style of other CP hotels, the railway proudly proclaimed the Alexandra to be the most luxurious CP hotel yet. The Royal Alexandra, a rare example of Edwardian architecture amongst the CP hotels, was considered the social centerpiece of Winnipeg for nearly sixty years before its closure in 1967. Four years later it was demolished with only the Grand Cafe of the hotel, carefully disassembled into hundreds of pieces and stored in a semi-trailer, surviving.
